About Pencoose

Pencoose Festival was started in 2019, initially being called Pencoose Pool Party. It was created by a group of friends, as an end of summer celebration, before heading back to college and university in September.

In conjunction with this, it also acted as a platform for the vibrant Cornish music scene, working closely with bands such as Cattalyst, to provide live music for the guests.

2019 was a smaller and more intimate affair, with a singular small stage at the top of a field, as well as a rustic pallet Tiki Bar, which sat on the perimeter of the pool. Two acts took to the stage that year and played to a crowd of approximately 200 people, in what was the start of the Pencoose journey.

The success of 2019 gave the impetus to the Pencoose team, to strive for bigger and better things in 2020, with a new venue selected with a higher capacity to allocate for the increasing demand. This was not to be the case however, as the COVID-19 pandemic scarpered any plans of a return, with the team taking the decision, with advice from leading NHS officials to postpone the event, much to the disappointment of the now growing Pencoose Festival fanbase. The year hiatus gave us an opportunity to expand the Pencoose team, additionally forging more links with the local music scene, who at this point were desperate to start playing gigs again, after what had been a tough twelve months.

As 2021 rolled around there was hope and optimism amongst the crew that the festival could go ahead. The first COVID vaccinations had been over the country, leaving the team optimistic that the event could go ahead in late summer 2021. Summer rolled around and this optimism was rewarded, as despite a brief COVID postponement, the festival went ahead in late summer 2021, becoming a resounding success. It built on the success achieved two years prior, as the team had worked tirelessly to increase the production value and the event as a whole. The increased capacity of the event at approximately 350 meant that new members of the Pencoose family could attend, and watch new acts such as Caravan Club, who made their Pencoose debut. The first ever Pencoose t-shirts were introduced this year, becoming a resounding success and something which will hopefully be continued for years to come. Pencoose has been gradually growing and improving the customer experience ever since, we hope you love attending the festival, as much as we love making it for you.
